One of the best way’s to personalize instruction is to learn the name of the tutee. An easy way to do this is to introduce yourself and ask their name. You can reinforce this by filling out the ‘blue or yellow card’ right then. Plus, you can refer back to the card if you forget their name.

Other ways of personalizing instruction are:

• Pace activities to suit the tutee
• Utilize examples particularly relevant or drawn from the experiences of the tutee
• More easily elicit and attend closely to the tutees ideas and
• Can more closely follow and anticipate student progress

Personalizing instruction in these ways greatly increases the likelihood that the students will learn the material.
