Step #1 - The Greeting and Climate Setting

Anytime two people meet, a greeting is exchanged. Such as 'Hello'.

In a tutoring situation, the warmth of the greeting, the arrangement of chairs and tables, eye contact, using the person's name and smiles are all related to setting a positive tone.

If interacting with a group, it is important to have chairs arranged in a perfect circle. This give everyone a sense of equality.

If the tutee is left handed, sit to their left. If they are right handed, sit to their right.

And don't forget to keep your hands off of the student's work...Your goal is to promote the tutee's independence!
